One little policy provides a lot of protection. A homeowner policy covers damage to your home from a variety of causes. If your home is totally destroyed or you cannot use it for a period of time due to a covered claim, your homeowner policy will cover the additional living expenses. The insurance extends to your home's contents and liability for damage to property of others. Bodily injury or property damage caused by your negligence or a resident family members negligence is generally covered. Your policy can be personalized to include greater levels of protection for important property, home office situations, liability for boat ownership and additions and alterations to your residence. This is just a small sample of the value provided by a well structured homeowner policy. If you own a home, own a condominium, or rent an apartment or home, a policy tailored to meet your needs is available.
You need protection should your vehicle be damaged or stolen. More importantly, you need liability protection - insurance should you or other household members cause property damage or injury to others as a result of operating a motor vehicle. Other automobile policy features include reimbursement for injury caused to you by an uninsured or inadequately insured driver (uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage) or optional medical payments coverage. There are many special situations where you may need to customize your policy; examples include installation of custom audio equipment, business use of your auto and teenage and guest drivers, to name a few. The end result is overall asset protection.
A Yacht or Watercraft policy will typically include protection against loss to your boat, motors, trailers and equipment. Also included is liability coverage for property damage or physical injury to others caused by you or other boat operators. Uninsured boater coverage may also be available.
Dwelling Fire Insurance is designed to insure residences you own or have a financial interest in but do not live in. Common situations calling for this type of insurance coverage include rental homes, homes that are temporarily vacant, or homes that are not currently occupied because of a transition caused by a sale or relocation. In these situations, insurance protection is needed for the building but typically not for contents. Premises Liability insurance for the property can sometimes be added to a Homeowners policy, added to the Dwelling Fire policy, or handled through alternative approaches. With older homes (built prior to 1978), a commercial policy is often required by underwriters since this approach often excludes coverage for lead paint exposure.
Even if your home or business is located away from water, you may still need Flood Insurance. Homeowner and Business Insurance policies exclude flood coverage. Groundwater flooding can cause damage to buildings on higher ground many miles from a body of water. Often - but not always - groundwater flooding will meet the definition of a flood under a policy issued by the National Flood Insurance Program. Over 20 percent of flood insurance claims originate from areas that are not considered high flood-risk areas. Affordable flood insurance protection is available and can be an important component of a sound insurance program.
FEMA (Department of Homeland Security) offers the following: "... you can live miles away from water and still be a victim of flooding. On average, 25-30% of flood insurance claims come from low to moderate risk areas. That's partly because it doesn't take a major body of water, or even a major storm, to cause a flood. Anything from a broken sewer line to a slow-moving rainstorm can cause flooding. Bottom line, your home has a 26% chance of being damaged by a flood over the life of a 30 year mortgage."
In most circumstances, a flood policy takes 30 days from date of application to effective date of coverage. Don't wait. For more information visit www.floodsmart.gov.
A Personal Umbrella Policy is perhaps the best insurance buy available today. This policy provides additional liability protection above your Personal Auto Policy and your Homeowners Policy. The coverage limits on the basic auto policy or home policy may not be adequate in a severe situation - a bad auto accident, an guest injury at your home. Litigation today results often in large jury awards. A Personal Umbrella Policy provides extra protection of $1 million or more. The cost of this coverage is usually very reasonable. Coverage for other exposures - boats, other residences, etc. - can be included under the umbrella.
Pet insurance provides financial benefits similar to human health insurance...even though insurance for our cats and dogs isn't the first thing we think about when our pets come to mind. Dogs live an average of 11 years, longer for small breeds and the average annual cost of dog ownership typically ranges from $700 to $3,000 a year.
Cats live even longer, averaging 12 to 14 years, and the total cost of cat ownership, over the lifetime of your pet ranges from $4,500 to $18,000. Veterinary wellness care, special diets, medication, spaying and neutering, let alone emergency surgical procedures make up 30% to 50% of these costs.

Your Recreational Vehicle may be a motor home, travel trailer, fifth wheel or a camper. As it may have the elements of a house (contents) and a car (mobility), it requires special insurance protection. We have insurance products that are specifically designed to address the unique concerns posed by an RV.
A renters policy covers personal property in your apartment, and at times it will cover your personal property out of your rental unit. In addition, the policy provides liability coverage for damage to property of others or injury caused to someone by you or a family member. Your policy can be personalized to include greater levels of protection for property such as jewelry which is afforded limited coverage under the contract. There are other content items that are limited as well - money, silverware, guns and other defined items. You need to work with your agent to tailor coverage to fit your needs. The cost for renters insurance is usually very affordable. The liability protection alone makes the coverage a necessity for a renter.
Many valuable possessions - personal property items - are specifically limited to a small limit of coverage under a standard homeowner policy. Examples of limited property include jewelry, antiques, oriental carpets, art work, collectibles, silverware, gold items and firearms. Scheduling valuable possessions gives you adequate specific levels of protection for such items. These items are typically the target of thieves - portable and valuable. Coverage for scheduled valuable articles often can be provided a broader scope of coverage than normal items covered under Homeowners Personal Property. You need to be certain that the internal homeowners limits for such valuable items are adequate with your insurance program.
Builders Risk Insurance is often used with a different term that describes what the insurance does - Course of Construction Insurance. Builders Risk Insurance covers specified physical damage to a building during construction and can be broadened to include building materials during the course of construction. Protection can be extended for the work of individual contractors, architects and engineers. Optional coverage can often be added for costs not directly related to construction such as marketing, loss of income and delayed completion. Liability protection for the construction process is not included in a Builders Risk policy and in general needs to be purchased separately.
If your business owns vehicles or if your business rents or leases them, you need Business Auto Insurance. If you or your employees use personal vehicles to conduct your business, you need Business Auto Insurance. A Business Auto Insurance Policy protects your business against injury to others and damage to property of others as a result of business use of vehicles. It also can provide coverage for physical damage to owned vehicles. Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist coverage is another important concern in constructing the policy. The policy can be tailored to cover the needs of a business owner whose sole auto coverage is provided through the Business Auto policy.
